Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does Therapy Cost?
$150 to $200 per 1 hr session for individuals. $200 to $250 per session for couples/families. Some discounts are available for established clients on a case-by-case basis. Rates are based on income. Referrals can be made for discounted therapy if finances are an issue. Click here to read my good-faith estimate.
Do you take insurance?
Not at this time, but we can provide a superbill or detailed receipt for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We can’t guarantee that they will reimburse you or cover your therapy, but we choose not to have an insurance company dictate the type or quality of treatment we provide our clients.

My office is at 6500 Troost Avenue G-30, in Kansas City, Missouri 64131. This neighborhood is called Brookside or Troost. The cross streets are 65th and Troost. My office entrance is on the north side of the building on 65th Street.
What is the office close to?
We're close to Niecie's Restaurant, and Baba's Pantry is just down the street. Many shops and restaurants are also close by on 63rd Street.
Do you have parking?
There is parking available on 65th Street. Our main off-street parking lot will be paved soon.
Do you offer Teletherapy?
Yes, I do. I can meet online with anyone located within the bounds of Kansas and Missouri. I have found that in most circumstances, meeting remotely can provide a high-quality therapy experience. I know this because I've gotten some life-changing teletherapy.
What is therapy?
Therapy is a series of conversations and experiences aimed at helping a person overcome, process, or accept circumstances creating life disturbance.
I'm nervous about therapy.
If you are nervous about therapy, let's chat. It's perfectly normal. I've given and gotten a lot of therapy. Much of therapeutic success depends on the relationship between therapist and client, so I'll do my best to help you feel comfortable.
What to do before the first session?
Once we decide to meet, you'll receive a HIPAA-compliant secure link to complete the paperwork and set up your profile. The paperwork includes your rights as a client and our practice policies. You will also have a chance to tell us about yourself and what brings you to therapy. During our first session, I can answer any questions regarding the paperwork and discuss any goals or concerns you have. Be sure to read the financial agreement closely, so you understand when payment is expected.
How long does therapy last?
Sessions are 50 minutes. Brief therapy is defined as 10 to 20 sessions. The severity of the problem often determines the length and frequency of therapy. Some types of therapy last for years. My preferences are in the middle of this range. We can keep going if you find it beneficial to your growth and process.
How often do people come?
Most people come weekly or every other week, depending on their circumstances. We can discuss the best way to reach your goals when we meet.
Should I come to therapy because my family, partner, or friends recommend it?
I'll be honest. That's what led to my first therapy session. If it's been suggested by people who care for you, it's worth trying. Eventually, I grew to deeply value and enjoy the growth and change that came with therapy.
What can I do between or after sessions to get the best value from therapy?
Before or between sessions, I recommend paying attention to emotional themes. What has been bothering you? What would be helpful to discuss, or what would you like to work on? Make a note of where you'd like to start the conversation. After the session, take a few minutes to write down what stood out to you.
